The creative direction of Anodyne is generated by the artists who access it. Anodyne is an environment where self-taught and traditional artists can develop; explore their creativity under the guidance of instructing artists who are professional in their own right. Anodyne personnel have been supported in understanding and utilizing non-traditional methods of mentoring. This includes supporting self-taught "outsider artists" in developing their style and creative process through instinct and emotion rather than by rules and guidelines. Classically trained artists with disabilities utilize Anodyne for collaboration, studio/performance/rehearsal space, and mentorship. The Established Artist program allows for artists established at large to utilize Anodyne's offerings in exchange for mentoring through classes, collaborations, or other volunteer opportunities.
